Nick Farr-Jones Launches Scholarship

Edinburgh Business School’s Australasian Scholarship Scheme, which has been developed in consultation with Nick Farr-Jones (ex-Wallaby Captain) offers applicants the opportunity to gain valuable post-graduate level education.

More than 60 guests were welcomed by the Australasian Edinburgh Business School team at award winning restaurant, William Blue Dining, to promote the Edinburgh Business School’s Australasian Scholarship Scheme.

The scholarship which has been developed in consultation with Nick Farr-Jones (ex-Wallaby Captain) offers applicants the opportunity to gain valuable post-graduate level education. It has been designed specifically to allow disadvantaged individuals the opportunity to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve their lives and the lives of others around them.

The evening commenced with the attendees enjoying a chance to network with other guests accompanied with light refreshments. This was followed by talks from three guest speakers. Malcolm Kinns, General Manager of EBS Australia, welcomed guests and spoke on the importance of lifelong learning, the history of EBS and the growth and strength of the EBS MBA programme.

Nick Farr-Jones delivered an effective and entertaining speech reinforcing the importance of the scholarship scheme and its long term aims to promote needs-based education as part of an on-going commitment to the development of people skills within the Australasian region.

To conclude, Simon Keating, Australasian EBS Scholarship winner of 2009, provided guests with an account of his own personal story as a nurse practitioner in the public health system. He accompanied this with a first-hand account of ‘the day in the life of an EBS student’ offering some encouraging words of wisdom for those looking to start their own education journey through EBS.

In attendance on the evening was Professor Gavin Kennedy author and academic of the ‘Negotiation’ elective in the EBS MBA programme. Professor Kennedy’s books on negotiation are best-sellers and are widely read by practising managers.

The evening was a huge success. The Scholarship scheme is open to nationals of the Pacific Islands, Australia and New Zealand and applications close on 1 May 2010.
